Distance education
got its start in the early 50's in England. The
BBC was a pioneer in these kinds of programs. Distance education
is a strategic method of study which does not oblige the students
to be physically present (during at least the majority of the
instructional process) in the same place as the instructor. By
using technology (educational media) such as computers and their
applications, telephone, audioconferencing, radio and tapes, slides,
film and video tapes, and text books, study guides and workbooks,
the teacher and the student unite and carry course content. The
students decode this information according to their context, to
construct new knowledge and activate prior knowledge.
